Donggang International Photo Festival, 2024

History and culture are the base of our shared human experience. My interest in culture led me to produce my artwork for this exhibition connecting the rich history of Yeongwol, with my current research about time. In my projects, I have explored the concept of time inscribed in images through long-exposure photography, using pinhole cameras.

A pinhole is a type of lensless camera based on the principle of the camera obscura. It has only a small hole through which light enters a dark container and hits a photosensitive surface.

This experimental nature can cause some confusion for viewers, as the images don't have the conventional qualities of sharpness and high resolution typically associated with photographs.

Here I present 14 artworks that I registered with a pinhole that I made with matchbox. Time becomes visible through movement blurs, creating dreamlike photos that evoke the nature of memory, where blanks are often filled with imagination
